Q. What is PWGFS?

A. Prince William Girls Fastpitch Softball offers an opportunity for girls ages 5 to 16 years old to participate in organized fastpitch softball. Teams are broken down into five divisions, (8U) 8 and Under, (10U) 10 and Under, (12U) 12 and Under, (14U) 14 and Under, and (16U) 16 and Under. The 8U and 10U divisions focus on the fundamentals of softball and are geared towards girls that have never played softball or who have some playing experience. The 12U, 14U and 16U divisions are much more competitive and prepare the girls for middle school and high school softball.

Q. What age bracket does my daughter belong in?

A. PWGFS, along with ASA, classifies a player's age as of January 1st of the current year for determining a player's eligibility.

Q. My daughter has never played softball before. Is that a problem?

A. Not at all. PWGFS is a recreational league comprised of players of all skill levels.

Q. When is registration?

A. Registration for the Fall 2010 Season is underway and will end at 12 noon on July 31, 2010.

Q. How can I register my daughter?

A. There are three ways you can register:

   1) You may register in person at one of our many Registration Sites TBD or at one of the Camps or Clinics TBD

   2) You may register online. (Online payments can be made or mailed in from online registration)

   3) You may print the forms and mail them to our PO Box with payment.

Q. Does PWGFS hold tryouts?

A. Yes, PWGFS holds a Player Skills Evaluation Day for team placement each Spring. Every player who registers is placed on a team. The 8U division does not attend as those teams are formed in a different manner. For the Fall, players are placed on teams using our blind hat pick style draft procedure.

Q. When is the Player Skills Evaluation Day?

A. None for Fall.

Q. My daughter wants to play for a specific coach or with a friend for carpool reasons. Will that be a problem?

A. No league can guarantee that a player will be placed on a specific team, and PWGFS is no different in this regard. The players are selected through a draft in an effort to keep the teams balanced. In our 8 & Under division however, we do try and place the players based on their schools and zip codes.

Q. Where does PWGFS play?

A. All PWGFS practices and games are played in Eastern Prince William County, mainly in the Dale City area. Please see the Field Locations tab.

Q. When does the season start?

A. The 2010 Fall season starts with practices in August (hard to get everyone together because summer vacations are still underway) and games start in early September (after school starts) and runs through mid-to-late October.

Q. What days do they usually play?

A. The league schedules games each day of the week except Sunday's. Although, occasionally we do get permission from the PWC Park Authority to use fields on Sundays to make up games that were cancelled due to weather.

Q. Who coaches the teams?

A. PWGFS coaches are all volunteers. They are mostly parents. In some cases they may be an individual that is interested in coaching but, does not have a child on the team. ALL PWGFS coaches are certified and background checked.

Q. I am interested in coaching a team. What should I do?

A. Please visit our Coaching Info page. In addition, go to the Contact Us page and let us know. A PWGFS representative will be happy to call you to answer any further questions you may have.

Q. Does PWGFS offer programs other than in the Spring?

A. Yes, PWGFS offers both Spring and Fall seasons. In addition, we offer Summer Camps in July and Winter Clinics during the Winter months. Please visit our Camps & Clinics page.

Q. What does the U stand for after each age group?

A. The U means & UNDER. For example: 8U is 8 and Under.

Q. Are registered players required to attend the Winter & Summer Clinics?

A. No, players are not required to attend clinics. PWGFS clinics are open to all players whether registered or not as long as they attend the clinic listed for their appropriate age group. Clinics review basic fundamental skills as well as advance techniques.

Q. Can I donate old equipment that my daughter(s) have outgrown?

 A. Yes, any equipment donation will be accepted. These donotions will go towards players and teams at all age levels to use if needed. There is always a need for a well used glove or bat, catchers gear, etc....

Q. My daughter has been playing slow-pitch softball and is considering fast-pitch, is there a difference?

A. Yes there is a difference. First, the hitting is different because your hitting a faster pitched ball. Second, middle school, high school and colleges play fast-pitch exclusively.

Q. What is the PWGFS season schedule like?

A. PWGFS has a 10 game regular season schedule culminating with a single elimination style tournament in each age division excluding 8U. Games are held weekday evenings, usually after 6:30 pm due to area traffic, and on Saturdays. Game schedules are not available until after registration and drafts are complete.

Q. How are my registration fees used?

A. Keep in mind that PWGFS is a 501c Non-Profit organization. PWGFS exists to provide local girls in the community with an opportunity to play organized softball and not to make a profit. Registration fees are based on an operating budget that attempts to include all cost associated with running a league.

Q. What is the mailing address for the league?

A. Our mailing address is:
